Two mainland men nabbed for involvement in an in-flight theft
On the afternoon of 1st May 2025, the Public Security Police Force transferred an in-flight theft case to the Judiciary Police. Case details revealed that, the three victims flew to Macao from Bangkok, Thailand on the morning of that day. As they were about to leave the cabin, they discovered that their belongings had been stolen, thus suffering a loss of RMB3,000, USD1,000, THB43,000 in cash and two credit cards. The victims then requested the cabin crew for assistance and reported the case to the police. Subsequently, police constables of the Public Security Police Force seized the aforesaid stolen items from the seatback pockets and overhead compartments of other seats. Two involved mainland men were apprehended.
The Section for Offences against Property of the Judiciary Police launched an investigation, and learnt that, while the three victims were resting on the flight, the two involved mainland men ransacked the trio’s luggage stored inside the overhead compartment and stole the items. After committing the theft, they wrapped the booty with plastic bags and placed the stolen items inside the overhead compartments and seatback pockets of other seats respectively, thereby evading the investigation of the police.
In addition, personnel of the Judiciary Police found that, the first involved mainland man had also been involved in two other similar cases that had taken place in March and April this year. The three victims of the case took a flight from Bangkok to Macao, as well as a flight from Macao to Malaysia. The trio placed their carry-on bags inside the overhead compartments after boarding the flights. During the flight, they had fallen asleep and left their seats. Upon arrival, they all discovered that their belongings had been stolen, and suffered a total loss of HKD43,000 and RMB10,000 in cash, as well as a credit card. Later, that credit card was misappropriated, incurring a loss of approximately MOP50,000 .
Based on investigative findings, the Judiciary Police transferred the two involved mainland men to the Public Prosecutions Office for the offence of aggravated theft.
